How do Senior Sessions work at Four J Photography?
I might want to book a photo session at Four J Photography. What do I do?
Whether you are thinking about booking a session or already know you would like to book one, give me a call or email and we can set up a time and date for your shoot. We can also set up your complimentary pre-shoot consultation. We will discuss things like: when do you want to photograph the session, how many images you are looking to get out of your experience, what style of portraiture you would prefer (modern, outdoors, black-and -white), and where you would like to have the photo session. I will also give you my DETAILED magazine full of ideas and info for your session. Most of my sessions take place outdoors and are weather permitting. I make every effort to accommodate your schedule, but in some instances a session may need to be rescheduled due to weather. Once we have agreed on the specifics of your session, I will email you my policies to review and either return via mail or bring to our session.
Where do we go for our photo session?
This is a biggie and definitely the most popular question I get. Most Seniors who are inquiring about an outdoor area to have a photo shoot don’t have any idea where to go. Some people know exactly where they would like their portraits done. For those of us who do NOT, here is a LIST I have compiled including areas in and around Lafayette, LA. I am always looking for new, beautiful spaces to shoot in, so don’t hesitate to suggest one in our pre-phone consultation.
What do I wear for our session?
There are a wide range of possibilities for this answer. A lot depends on your own personal style and what the “feel” of the shoot will be, but there are some guidelines that I have found work well with most styles.
- Avoid harsh patterns, logos, or writing in your clothing choice.
- Wear “classic” clothing styles instead of what is popular today, and dress age appropriate.
- Layering clothing and accessories creates texture and interest.
- Wear coordinating neutral colors with pops of color- instead of being too matchy matchy.
- If shooting outdoors bold, bright colors look great on greenery landscapes and neutral colors look great on urban or muted landscapes.
- Adding accessories- such as jewelry, props, hats, and hair accessories- can really complete your look.
- Some of the BEST outfits can come from vintage or thrift stores. This WHOLE styled session’s wardrobe came from thrift and second hand stores!
I love to have an in-home or in-store pre consultation so we can review outfits and hairstyles for your big day. These are offered to you a week or so before your session and are complementary. After you book your session, I send you a 60 page magazine which includes a DETAILED what to wear guide!
What happens at the actual session?
I will call/email a day or so before our session to confirm the day and time and answer any last minute question you might have. On the day of the session, you will meet at the studio one of my fabulous makeup artists will get started on your beautiful custom makeup. Then Wendy will get your hair ready for the picture. After you are done getting glammed up, we will head to your shoot location. If you are not having hair and makeup, we will simply meet at our session appointment time!

I will also incorporate some unique ideas and shots specifically for you. After our session, I quickly get to work editing and posting your images. I also like to set up our in-person viewing appointment during our session. This typically takes place 1-2 weeks after your session.
How do I see and select my images?
I individually examine and edit every photo. Once your best images are completed, I will send your online proofing gallery about 1-2 weeks after your session. Once you have decided on your favorite images with the image proofs. You will select the collection that fits your needs best!
